The surrounding Redwoods National and State Parks includes miles of trails and coastline north and south of the Klamath River estuary, including the rocky coastal view from High Bluff Overlook. You’ll be tasting the ocean you’re looking at, since Chef Matthew Kammerer uses sea vegetables, kelp, seaweed, and seafood harvested from the restaurant’s “back yard” in his innovative dishes. The hyper local focus continues in the actual back yard, where vegetables, herbs, and fruit are grown organically and sustainably before making the short journey from the garden to the kitchen. All ingredients are sourced from within a 50 mile radius, truly representative of the area they are grown in and redolent of their native terroir. The location was perfect for us.

Almost the entire menu is vegan, which made me nervous about flavor. Zesty flavors, deployed with wit. Portions are smaller than Southern cooks favor, but I came away full enough. Get there early or expect a line; it doesn’t accept reservations. This world class restaurant is housed in a century-old former private residence made of local redwood.

The location can’t be beaten; the friendly staff recommended some great restaurants, and our room was beautiful. We enjoyed walking to several of the nearby places we wanted to see. It was a great way to see the area up close and meet the friendly locals. Klamath River Overlook, at the end of Requa Road in Klamath, offers the region’s best and broadest view of the river as it empties into the sea. From that overlook, you can hike a steep trail (one mile down and back) that takes you toward the water.

At Elk, 17 miles south of Mendocino, you can wander the black sands of driftwood-filled Greenwood State Beach. If your wallet is prepared, consider the Harbor House Inn, a remarkable haven that opened in 2018 after an extensive rehab. It has 11 upscale rooms and cottages (roughly $500 per night and up), great rocky coastal views, a private cove and a world-class restaurant led by chef Matthew Kammerer (tasting menu $220 per person). Local ingredients abound, including cod, kelp, hemp and abalone. Bay Area weekenders keep this place busy — in fact, they seem to be keeping the entire redwood coast busy this summer. The 25-seat dining room is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which meant I didn’t get a chance to eat.

I’ve been there twice, and the next time I’m in the Klamath area, I’ll go again. On to Fort Bragg, 10 miles north of Mendocino. The city’s Noyo Harbor has been rough around the edges for decades, but now there’s new energy in this damp netherworld. For an upscale overnight, try the Noyo Harbor Inn, built in the 1860s and reopened after a painstaking rehab in 2017. Or eat at the inn’s HarborView Bistro. Some newer residents say they made their way to Mendocino coast for a visit and its natural beauty compelled them to stay.

Less than half a mile walk to the funk zone where we wanted to hit up some great brew pubs. The hotel was just across the street from beach. Rose Garden Ideas How to Design with Roses

roses design

Plant in a mixed border, mass planting, container, or as a stand-alone accent. Foundation planting along the base of your home helps it to feel like an integrated part of your landscape, and a colorful selection of roses and other plants will create a vibrant display. Choose a variety of shrubs and flowers that will bloom in spring, summer, and fall for visual interest throughout the year. These elegant flowers are the star of classic rose gardens, but they can look at home in a whole range of approachable design styles. Read on for our expert tips on rose garden design and a wealth of inspiration from our favorite rose garden ideas.

How do you start a rose garden?

You can create an impressive hedge that adds beauty and privacy to your garden by covering a tall fence in climbing roses or planting a row of dense rose bushes all on their own. Looking for a little style inspiration to help you create your perfect rose garden? We've compiled a list of the latest trends and enduring classics in rose garden design that we love to incorporate into our own landscaping plans. The style of the rose garden design or area should take its cue from the overall garden design and the proximity to the house. You should also consider the conditions in your garden or the chosen spot to ensure you plant roses where they will have the best chance of success. Train other vining plants such as clematis to grow up through shrub or climbing roses to create exciting flower combinations.

What should you not plant around roses?

Drawing something over and over again is necessary if you want to capture it with power and authority. Also, by drawing something repeatedly, you will become more confident of the subject, which will allow you to take chances. So draw with abandon and don’t worry about how good those initial sketches are. Draw to learn; each drawing is leading you closer to the perfect rose. As with all plants, you should choose the rose varieties to suit the space they are going to occupy, and the surroundings.

Grow horizontally:

But roses are notoriously hard to get right, so we've collated some top tutorials to help you get it right. Rachel is senior content editor, and writes and commissions gardening content for homesandgardens.com, Homes & Gardens magazine, and its sister titles Period Living Magazine and Country Homes & Interiors. Rachel then moved into regional lifestyle magazines, where the topics she wrote about, and people she interviewed, were as varied and eclectic as they were on radio. ‘The possibilities of companion plants are endless and the key thing is to let your imagination run wild and see what works. Some companions that I find work include clematis, astrantia, salvias and asters,’ explains designer Richard Miers.

Modern roses are those bred after 1867, comprising most garden roses grown today. These include hybrid tea, polyantha, floribunda, grandiflora, shrub, climbers, and miniature roses. Grown for their showy blooms and romantic fragrance, roses come in a dizzying array of forms, sizes, and types. Sorting them out can be confusing, even for experienced gardeners. Here’s a basic primer of the most commonly grown types and how to use them in the landscape.

These hybrid shrubs or climbers combine the full-petaled flower form and intense fragrance of old roses with the wider color range, repeat bloom and disease-resistance of modern roses. Also known as David Austin roses for the breeder who introduced them in the 1960s, these do best in milder regions with cooler summers. Use in a mixed border, containers, as hedging, or a stand-alone focal point. Hybrid teas, which are a cross between tea roses and hybrid perpetuals, became the first modern rose type when introduced in 1867. The wide range of flower colors and large fragrant blooms, which are each borne on a long single stem, make these a favorite of seasoned gardeners, exhibitors, and florists. Hybrid teas can be higher maintenance and more susceptible to pests and diseases than other types.

Pink Fusion

Intersperse plants that flower at different times to extend the bloom season. These can include perennials or annuals such as petunia, verbena, or calibrachoa. The human error component has largely been taken out of the equation.” So, why can’t every organization use their existing e-bidding platform to evaluate design-build contracts? The point of the article is that they can - if their software is evolving alongside industry demands.

The flower arrangement was gorgeous, delivery was smooth, and the recipient absolutely delighted. Andre and his House of Flower Design are truly outstanding. The recipient shared that it was the most exquisite floral display she had ever received.

Growing a rose around a doorway can really make a feature of an entranceway. If growing a rose around a doorway, seating area, place where people pass or children play, then consider a variety with few thorns such as Mortimer Sackler or The Shepherdess. With the myriad varieties of roses available via garden centers and online retailers, it’s hard to avoid making impulse purchases. If you start with a plan and know your limitations, you are less likely to suffer buyer’s remorse.

Rose care is easier than you think—anyone can grow them successfully. Other climbing roses perfect for growing up an arch include The Generous Gardener, Malvern Hills and Constance Spry – unrivalled for scent. If you’re looking for rose garden inspiration be sure to visit National Trust Mottisfont, home to the National Collection of pre-1900 old-fashioned roses. Repeat flowering and with beautiful fragrances, roses are a brilliant choice of flower for growing near a seating area. Try training a rambling rose, such as this Phyllis Bide variety by David Austin Roses, across an arch over a bench for a pretty garden retreat. A repeat flowerer with a medium, sweet scent and sprays of small, pale apricot-pink flowers, Phyllis Bide brings a romantic feel to the garden summer long.

Find the perfect designer to match your style and budget. Wedding & Lifestyle Photography geared toward the romantic-feminine client.Hand-drawn logo, with accent on flowers. La Boite makes luxurious bloom boxes on the market, offering clients the choice of either fresh roses or everlasting roses in a selection of acrylic and hat boxes. A logo that conveys luxury and high-end was a must, so I designed a fancy LB monogram that could be embossed on the box. The logo is accompanied by the intricate, butterfly illustration that gives identity to the brand.

There are numerous classes of roses, ranging from micro-miniatures to grandifloras, and from groundcovers to climbing roses, with some classes containing hundreds of varieties. While it may be tempting to fill your rose garden with a wide assortment, you are likely to end up with a disorderly array and too many plants for the space. A few well-chosen varieties will give you more satisfaction than dozens of mismatched plants that don’t work in harmony.

A rose garden can be as simple as a single rose specimen interspersed with a few other plants. It can be as elaborate as a formal landscape embellished with hardscaping, arbors, seating, and statuary. Even smaller spaces can accommodate roses in containers, raised beds, or narrow side yards. Here are the basics of rose garden design, along with some ideas to get you started. A single flower bed of roses or one large statement rose bush is all it takes to create an eye-catching feature in your landscape.

Many garden designers like to use wild species roses (or single and semi-double roses that have the look of wild roses) to create a wonderfully informal, natural look, while providing food for wildlife. In times gone by, walled rose gardens were known as rosaries and often contained nothing but roses. For example, salvias (such as the fabulous hot-pink ‘Cerro Potosí’) are thought to act as natural fungicide because their leaves contain sulphur. Old garden roses, sometimes referred to as antique, are species and cultivars that existed before 1867, which was the year when the first hybrid tea rose ‘La France’ was introduced. This is recognized as the transition year between old and modern roses. Old roses include Bourbon, Damask, Gallica, Tea, China, and Rambler.

However, roses can be complicated and intimidating for two reasons. You can choose a palette of one color, or a variety, but think about where the roses are located in the backyard. Most roses repeat flower but in a larger scheme, especially, it is well worth including some once flowering old roses as they can add a different type of character.

10 Most Famous Houses in Los Angeles, CA With Pictures

a wise woman builds her house

It was a humbling moment, as we imagined our boys, thirty years from now, remembering almost nothing of these everyday routines. It was also a moment — and they seem to come often these days — that put motherhood in a new and hallowed light. The question came from my wife, a mother of two young boys who have not yet mastered the art of getting dressed. I thumbed through the files of those early years and came up blank, the thousands of pant-pull-ups and shirt-put-ons lost to conscious memory. 19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

Its minimalist style and linear design elements connect with the grid of Los Angeles streets which can be seen from the windows. One of Frank Lloyd Wright's most important designs, it's built of textile blocks in the style of a Mayan temple. Partly designed by John and Donald B. Parkinson, it was the last great railway station to be built and not the grandest, but it's been in so many films that we all recognize it when we see it. 34 Godliness makes a nation great,    but sin is a disgrace to any people. 28 A growing population is a king’s glory;    a prince without subjects has nothing. 16 The wise are cautious[a] and avoid danger;    fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence.

Wealth is a crown for the wise;the effort of fools yields only foolishness.A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is a traitor. If she is wise, such as the woman of Proverbs 31, she will apply this wisdom to the building up of her house. But if she is foolish, her world will fall apart, and her own hands will be to blame. Let her be obnoxious, let her live for instant gratification, let her be a nag and a gossip to her family, and there will be discord and disorder.

Proverbs 14

2 Those who follow the right path fear the Lord;    those who take the wrong path despise him. Despite its oversized fame, it's a modest-sized house, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls and a 300-degree-plus view of the city of Los Angeles. Designed by Pierre Koenig in 1959 from a concept developed by the house's owner Buck Stahl, it's also called Case Study House #22. This house is in an area of the Silver Lake neighborhood called The Colony, where you'll find a number of Neutra designs on and around Neutra Place. You can see them from the outside by touring off Earl Street between Silver Lake Boulevard and Glendale Boulevard.

Proverbs 14:1

17 Short-tempered people do foolish things,    and schemers are hated. 11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed,    but the tent of the godly will flourish. Schindler came to California to work for Frank Lloyd Wright and supervise construction of the Hollyhock House.

Designed by architect Richard Meier, this complex occupies an entire hilltop just off fabled Sunset Blvd. We think it's one of the greatest outdoor spaces in Southern California, with the architecture eclipsing the collection it houses. Built in 1960 at 7776 Torreyson Drive in West Hollywood (in the hills overlooking Studio City and just off Mulholland Drive), The Chemosphere was designed by architect John Lautner.

13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness. 34 Righteousness exalts a nation,(AP)    but sin condemns any people. 10 Each heart knows its own bitterness,    and no one else can share its joy. 9 Fools mock at making amends for sin,    but goodwill is found among the upright. 2 Whoever fears the Lord walks uprightly,    but those who despise him are devious in their ways.

After architect Rudolph Schindler came to California in the 1920s to oversee construction of Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House, he designed his residence in West Hollywood. Some say it was the first modern house to respond to California's unique climate, serving as the prototype for the distinctive California style that developed in the early twentieth century. Today it's open as a museum, located in Malibu Lagoon State Park and open to the public for guided tours. 27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. The Avila Adobe gets its notoriety from the fact that it’s the longest-standing home in Los Angeles. It’s one of the smaller homes though, so you don’t need to carve too much time out of your schedule for the tour.

28 In a multitude of people is a king’s honor,But in the lack of people is the downfall of a prince. 13 Even in laughter the heart may sorrow,And (L)the end of mirth may be grief. 11 (H)The house of the wicked will be overthrown,But the tent of the upright will flourish. It doesn’t feature a formal living room, any bedrooms, or any common living areas.

But because of its historical significance and because it provides a look back at the architectural style from 1818, we think it’s well worth the visit. Whether you’re looking for the perfect venue for a wedding, an eye-popping tour, or you just want to look around, the Greystone Mansion and park is a great place to start this list. It’s one of the most iconic houses in all of Los Angeles, and it’s open to tours and private events. One of Frank Lloyd Wright's most important works, in a style he called "California Romantic," designed in 1917 and built between 1919 and 1923 for oil heiress Aline Barnsdall.

22 If you plan to do evil, you will be lost;    if you plan to do good, you will receive unfailing love and faithfulness. 21 It is a sin to belittle one’s neighbor;    blessed are those who help the poor. 12 There is a path before each person that seems right,    but it ends in death. 9 Fools make fun of guilt,    but the godly acknowledge it and seek reconciliation.

The Bible calls a wife and mother to be a manager of her household on behalf of her “head,” her husband and for the sake of her children. By carelessly, or spitefully, adopting destructive habits that alienate and impoverish her family. She spends money the family does not have, or invests the family fortune foolishly in what she does not understand.

a wise woman builds her house

This is not to say that the wife and mother is the only one responsible for the problems in a household. Indeed, God will hold the husband, who is the head of his wife, as more responsible. If a woman tends toward foolishness, a gentle but firm standing man of God will be able to help her see and change course. This proverb has a wide application as there are multiple ways that foolishness can manifest. This particular verse applies to women, specifically women who have charge of some “house” to build.

Proverbs 14:1

2 He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord,(A)But he who is perverse in his ways despises Him. Whether you’re interested in architecture, history, or pop culture, there’s sure to be a home in Los Angeles that holds your interest. As busy as college students are, it can be profoundly beneficial for them to seek out and engage in a routine Bible study. Still, it’s not always easy to make that decision—instead of a night with friends or yet another study session for a high-level math class, go to Bible study instead. An excellent example of American Arts and Crafts style architecture, Gamble House was designed in 1908 by Charles and Henry Greene for David and Mary Gamble (Procter and Gamble). Architect Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue designed it to in the style of ancient Egypt. In the early 1990s, it was expanded in what renovation architect Norman Pfeiffer called "Modernist/Beaux Arts style." Funded by the Disney family to honor Walt Disney and designed by architect Frank Gehry, it's one of the most dramatic sights in downtown Los Angeles.

Even if you’re not overly interested in the house, the tour is worth it just for the views you get of the city. If you want an in-person tour you’ll have to book in advance, and the city does require proof of vaccination to tour it. Los Angeles is a vibrant and active city, and one area it thrives is its architecture. Whether you’re looking for architectural masterpieces, iconic landmarks, or homes from movies and TV shows, Los Angeles has it all.

10 Each heart knows its own bitterness,    and no one else can fully share its joy. 8 The prudent understand where they are going,    but fools deceive themselves. 3 A fool’s proud talk becomes a rod that beats him,    but the words of the wise keep them safe.

Geneva College’s John Gallo and Jenna Bieber provide a guidebook for leaders. The Book of Proverbs has no use for the gullible, viewing them as willful fools. Even when everyone else can see a hateful, deceitful person for what he is, the gullible choose to believe gracious words. Yet before a man meets Lady Wisdom as wife, he is meant to meet her as mother.

The original screened-in porch needed some TLC, so while we were at it during construction, we changed it to an open airport with a pretty blue ceiling in Benjamin Moore’s Ice Cap. We couldn’t miss an opportunity to have a traditional Southern “Haint blue” ceiling! With the help of Brian Hughes of The Simpson Company, we worked together to find a space for me. In fact, when David and Brian found the cottage that is now mine, it wasn’t even for sale, and the family who owned it hadn’t planned to sell it just yet. However, David and Brian are a wealth of knowledge, and a powerhouse real estate team, so I trusted them completely.

Happy shopping, y'all! With Love, Maggie & Abbye

Pace and Kayne Griffin, which has operated in Southern California for over a decade, have a strong history of collaboration. Over the past five years, the two galleries have developed an unprecedented working partnership, after James Turrell first brought them together, sensing a natural synergy. Perhaps one of the most eye-catching features of the home is its exterior vignettes — intimate spaces for sunset-viewing, watching leaves fall to the forest floor, and sipping a glass of wine as the autumn chill rolls in.

Volunteer Experience

Comfortable chairs flank the front entryway, a built-in porch banquette offers a spot to curl up with a good book, and a swing lends itself to an afternoon nap in the sunshine. A covered deck with a fireplace provides a dedicated space for outdoor living, complete with a stone fireplace, plush couches, and a view of the wooded expanse. What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career? For any woman starting her career in interior design, its important to hone in which areas you’d like to specialize. It’s not as glamorous as it all seems sometimes… there’s a lot of schlepping, of finessing clients, and dealing with logistics. A California-cool color palette with a Southern spin was the design goal for this home in Brookhaven—a bustling suburb of Atlanta.

Personality differences, expectations, etc. have to be navigated with great care, and can sometimes be a bit of a clash. We’ve found that extensive communication upfront can help ease some of those stressors, especially when there is a great deal of trust placed into your designer, and hard-earned money being spent. This new partnership between Pace and Kayne Griffin provides expanded opportunities to combine the galleries’ distinct areas of strength in an innovative model to best serve their artists and the Los Angeles community. Kayne Griffin’s established reputation and integral position within the local arts scene will bring new audiences to Pace’s artists and programming.

It’s been a roller coaster project, but I’ve loved every second of it. Working on and off with the project for about two years, the Maggie Griffin Design team created a nature-inspired aesthetic that merges older vintage pieces with modern art and fabrics. To achieve the right look, Maggie also employed a color scheme that includes greens, blues, and earth tones galore — just the right shades to honor the Gainesville landscape.

As a college student, Maggie had the pleasure of studying abroad in Florence, Italy where she studied The History of Fabrics as well as Retail Design and Merchandising. Equipped with a command of architecture along with a mastery of textiles, Maggie uses her knowledge of scale and symmetry and her understanding of modern sensibility to turn houses into homes and dreams into realities. Perfect for relaxing and taking respite, the bedrooms were intentionally designed with a Zen-like quality. The master is swathed in neutral grasscloth with the upholstered bed in a Belgian linen as the focal point. Luxe, crisp white linens dress the bed, while embroidered draperies cover the windows for softness.

To bring this dream to life, the homeowners hired designer Maggie Griffin of Maggie Griffin Design who then selected natural fibers, neutral textures, sage green, and plenty of white to create a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere. The owners had a few existing pieces they wanted to incorporate into the home, but they mostly gave Griffin carte blanche with the interiors. As you might already know, the past few months have brought several exciting changes for me and my business, Maggie Griffin Design. It’s a little white cottage full of big ideas, and today, I am thrilled to share a peek at the before and after of the exterior of the house. Pace Founder and Chairman Arne Glimcher began visiting the Los Angeles in the 1960s, cultivating longstanding relationships with Robert Irwin and other major artists from the region. From 1995 to 2000, Pace maintained a gallery space, under PaceWildenstein, on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Even before construction began, I had a vision for the house and trusted our friend and contractor, Kevin Flack of Treadstone Construction to help us make it happen. With much care and attention to the original charm, character, and details of the home, we made it into the perfect studio space for my interior design business. La Brea Ave, which features key elements designed by James Turrell, will become Pace’s new west coast flagship. The 15,000-square-foot Los Angeles gallery space, which occupies the site of a 1940s Californian auto showroom, features a permanent Skyspace by Turrell unique to the city. The indoor-outdoor design and expansive courtyard will become a site for Pace Live public programming, as well as outdoor sculpture exhibitions and other events, cementing the space as a fixture in the local art scene.

Comfortable swivel chairs are tucked into a long reading nook that provides a welcoming space to wind down at the end of the day. As Managing Partners at Pace, Griffin and Kayne will have active roles on the global leadership team, with Griffin involved in client relationships and strategic development, and Kayne lending her expertise to artist support and new business development. With a combined 40 years of experience on the West Coast, Griffin and Kayne will support Pace’s efforts to provide opportunities for its artists in that region. The existing Kayne Griffin staff, including Griffin and Kayne, will officially join the Pace team starting in April. Asking for a list of expectations, a few favorite images of our work, and having a conversation with the potential client has helped to provide direction and focus for us and for our clients. For those who are starting out, there is such a learning curve when it comes to dealing with tricky situations, and I am happy to have gotten over some of those humps, after all that time (I hope!)!

How to choose the best computer for graphic design

best desktop computer for graphic design

Chief among them is its Zero Gravity Hinge, which allows you to position the screen at an angle. Being able to adjust the screen in this manner is great for creative professionals who need to draw, but don't have a tablet. We've reviewed every GPU from Nvidia, AMD, and Intel to bring you a comprehensive list of the best GPUs for gaming. If you're considering an upgrade, make sure to read our guide on how to install a graphics card, as well as some of the most common GPU problems. Personal preference and experience dictate the operating system of choice more than anything, making it hard to recommend one over the other. The best way to tell which one is ideal for you is to try both out to see which one feels more intuitive for you to work on, and which one will work with your favorite programs.

What kind of display do I need for graphic design?

The 8-core CPU zips through common design tasks, while the 8-core GPU provides smooth graphics acceleration for apps and up to two displays. As a graphic designer, you want to have a smooth workflow, easy multitasking, and quick rendering, but without going overboard with specs or features that you might not use. You might be wondering what the MSI Trident AS is doing on this list since it’s often classified as a gaming computer. Well, it is a gaming computer, but it has features that can also fit the needs of graphic artists like you. The MSI Trident AS is one of the most compact gaming desktops on this list.

Anti-Crawler Protection is checking your browser and IP 23.158.72.219 for spam bots

Designers often use desktop computers for a complete workstation setup. Lastly, The Pavilion 590 micro tower design provides internal expansion capabilities for future upgrades. If you're considering getting a Mac for graphic design right now, it's an easy recommendation from me. However, the M1 chip outperforms CPUs costing several times as much in creative applications and video rendering times. The Lenovo Yoga AIO 7 4K display comes with an optional 99% Adobe RGB color gamut and 99% DCIP3 color space, which, of course, is useful for anyone who needs to optimize color accuracy.

How Much Storage and Memory Should My Desktop Have?

The screen and speakers are built-in, and you'll likely use a wireless keyboard and mouse, anyway. At a minimum, they'll have to connect to a display, speakers or headphones, and a power source. It's still possible to find desktops with only spinning hard drives, but we recommend avoiding these and choosing an SSD as the main boot drive whenever possible. Some desktops feature a single-drive combination of an SSD and a hard drive. A "true" SSD is the only way to go as a boot drive today, though, considering how far prices have dropped in the last couple of years.

The ‍Aurora R10 can also run multiple creative applications, so it will be easier for you to work with your designs. The new Apple Mac Mini comes in the same little metal box as before but with its biggest performance upgrade yet. The 5K resolution delivers stunning clarity and fine details critical for creative work.

Dell XPS 8940

best desktop computer for graphic design

HP's Z2 Mini G9 doesn't have those, but it has awesome performance, impressive connectivity, and surprising serviceability for a PC only 2.7 by 8.3 by 8.6 inches big. The latter must be a half-length, half-height GPU powered by the PCI Express slot, but the 12GB Nvidia RTX A2000 in our review system is certainly no slouch. As an upgrade on the M1 Max model, the M1 Ultra version of the Mac Studio deeply impressed us, but it's been easily superseded by its next-generation successor. It must be said first that the M2 Ultra model starts at $3,999, and the particular M2 Ultra version we reviewed cost an exorbitant $8,799 as configured.

You'll want to follow the guidance of the software maker, in that case. Google's ChromeOS is a viable alternative to Windows and macOS, but desktops running it (called Chromeboxes) are rare and best suited to niche uses like powering a restaurant menu display. A fourth option is to buy a desktop with no operating system at all and install an open-source one of your choosing, such as Ubuntu Linux. We don't recommend going this route unless you're technically savvy, willing to experiment, and okay with fixing software compatibility issues and other quirks.

It’s one of the most recommended options to go with especially if you need a compact desktop that comes with powerful hardware for content creation. On top, it comes with one of the best 5K display panels for editing your projects in high detail. Since you won’t be lugging a desktop around nearly as much as you would a laptop, it’s less important to handle the chassis and test-drive its build quality in the store before you bring it home. Still, if the desktop comes with peripherals included, it can be helpful to type a few lines and move the mouse around in the store. Setting eyes on an all-in-one desktop is more crucial than with a typical tower desktop or mini PC. The screen is an integral part of what you are buying, and eyes-on time matters, especially if you’re not well-versed, say, in the differences between a 24-inch and 27-inch panel, or a 1080p screen versus a 4K one.

These refurbished PCs are often surprisingly cheap ($150 to $250 is common), and many are desktop towers, so they're easy to upgrade or service if a component goes south. Large corporations lease fleets of desktops for a few years at a time, after which third parties refurbish them and provide them for resale on eBay, as well as via retailers such as Best Buy, Newegg, and TigerDirect. To find them, search or filter the product category pages for "off-lease" or refurbished systems. Few people will see much benefit from memory amounts above 16GB, but you'll find exceptions. Gaming PCs above the budget level should have at least 16GB of RAM, and 32GB is a prudent upgrade for esports hounds who want to play and simultaneously edit and stream in-game footage.

Here, I test and review the latest high-performance laptops and desktops, and sometimes a key core PC component or two. The best process for graphic design should have a large video memory. That will allow your computer to function smoothly and take some stress off the system. Then, I’ll share some of the top desktop computers for your graphic design work.

The HP ENVY 34 All-in-One is more affordable and one of the best such challengers to Apple's two-in-one that we've tested. In practice, our reviewer found it handled complex, labour-intensive tasks with ease, for example working on design in Illustrator and Photoshop at once while running Freeform and multiple browser tabs. The Pavilion 590 range offers various AMD Ryzen and Intel Core CPU options to fit different budgets without compromising performance. This Ryzen Edition desktop gives you the power to develop and explore new worlds with up to a 16-core 3rd generation AMD Ryzen processor.

More importantly, it's the only workstation available now with AMD's Threadripper 5000 Pro processors. You can pack in up to a Threadripper Pro 5995WX processor, which packs in 64 cores and 128 threads, along with an astounding 256MB of L3 cache. Similarly, you can add up to two Nvidia Quadro GV100 GPUs, which is powerful enough for even the most demanding tasks.

In both the US and the UK, Dell provides dozens of build-your-own options for customizing the Precision 7920. Max these out, and you can easily end up in the six-figure territory. This lets buyers tailor the system to precisely meet their performance requirements and budget.

Despite a beautifully compact and minimalist design, our testing fount it to very capable thanks to Apple's powerful M2 Pro chip, which takes performance to a whole new level. Our testing actually found it to be 10% faster than the M2 Max-powered MacBook Pro. The Mac Studio is more like the "headless" Mac Mini, sporting a compact, low-profile design that is sold without a monitor, keyboard, or mouse. But, rather than the entry-level M1 processor used in the current Mac Mini, the somewhat larger Mac Studio steps up a gear, offering power-hungry creative users the choice of top-of-the-range M1 Max or M1 Ultra processors. With so many options, I hope this guide helped you narrow down your choices and that you benefited from my perspective as a fellow graphic designer. The XPS Desktop 8940 boasts its highly customizable feature when ordering, with a wide range of component options for processor, memory, storage, and graphics.

A desktop CPU gives you more power for complex content-creation work, PC gaming, or math and scientific projects. Faster processors with four, six, eight, or even as many as 18 cores will benefit software written to take advantage of the extra cores. The desktop version of a given CPU will consume more power and generate more heat than versions designed for laptops, which must be incorporated into environments that have less thermal and power-delivery leeway. A desktop CPU also has greater wiggle room to incorporate a key feature, multithreading, that allows each of the CPU's cores to address two processing threads at a time instead of just one. Multithreading (which Intel calls "Hyper-Threading") can deliver a major performance boost when engaged with suitably equipped software.

With a rooftop pool, on-site Italian restaurant, and stylish rooms, it makes for a relaxing place to escape the hustle and bustle of South Beach. Amenities at the Kimpton Epic include a rare spirits bar, cigar lounge, Japanese restaurant, two pools, a spa, and a rooftop dining venue. Every room and suite has a private balcony providing views of Miami and/or the waterfront.

Hotels offering free shuttle services are often located closer to the airport or the cruise port, providing easy access for travelers. However, this might mean compromising on the proximity to the city’s main attractions, restaurants, and nightlife. The port is located on Miami’s downtown waterfront and enjoys easy access to Miami International Airport which is just eight miles away. The port is also linked to the city by a combination of road, monorail, and other public transportation services.

More Royal Caribbean

The Comfort Suites is a mid-range chain hotel near the Miami International Airport. The hotel offers free 24-hour shuttles to the airport and to the Port of Miami, from which many cruises embark. All the spacious rooms are suites, including a seating area in addition to the bed(s), plus a big flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, and microwave. The hotel is best suited for travelers looking to get in and out of town quickly, but its oversized rooms may be useful to families wanting to see Miami on a budget. However, some furnishings are outdated and worn and there's no Internet in the rooms, only the lobby. The hotel has a great location directly on the Miami River in downtown, right next to the Port of Miami and within two minutes' walk of the James L. Knight International Center.

How much is a shuttle from Miami airport to the cruise port?

The hotel provides a free, on-demand shuttle to get you from the airport to the property. When you arrive, you can also schedule a complimentary shuttle to the cruise port. Times and availability are first come, first serve, so sign up as soon as you check-in.

The Fairfield Inn & Suites Miami Airport South is conveniently located less than two miles from the airport terminals. It offers its guests a cooked breakfast service as well as having a fitness center and outdoor whirlpool. The EB Hotel Miami is currently, in our opinion, the best hotel near Miami International Airport.

If you want to take the transportation for the Port of Miami, please let the Front desk know at your check in time. The hotel’s Cruise Package includes a shuttle 1-way to the port of Miami for two guests, and it takes about 10 minutes to get there. The Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Miami is a popular, modern and contemporary hotel conveniently located close to more than 30 bars and restaurants in the downtown Brickell area.

Hotel Colonnade is fancy, but sits right on the Coral Way trolley stop. In addition to the high-end stay, there are a number of shopping and restaurant options right nearby. Novotel Miami-BrickellInterested in a hotel with a rooftop infinity pool overlooking Miami? Then you’ll want to know more about the Novotel Miami-Brickell. It’s about a mile or two south of downtown, so close enough to be near the action but not to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle.

Enjoy free hot breakfast before taking your seat on the cruise shuttle bus which transfers guests and their luggage to the cruise port for an additional fee. This includes round trip transportation to the Port of Miami along with a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport. Please note that this package is not always available, please check with hotel directly. A third party transfer can always be organized for an extra charge. You can book the Park, Stay and Go package at The Hampton Inn which includes free transportation to the port and extended cruise parking.

The high-rise building has good shops and restaurants nearby and guests can look forward to smart contemporary rooms. Extended Stay America – Miami – Coral GablesCoral Gables is some distance from the port, but the Coral Way trolley runs between the cruise port and the city. That means you can get a hotel here — often for cheaper than staying downtown — and still get a free ride to the port. The Extended Stay is a mid-level hotel, and we found rates for about $100 a night in some cases. The Residence Inn Miami Airport has two restaurants and used to provide a shuttle service to the port but this service is not longer offered. You can always check at the front desk for latest shuttle information.

If your visit includes an overnight stay, this is also the place to experience Miami's nightlife at its best. Outbound flight times don't always dovetail perfectly with your cruise line's disembarkation time, so you might find yourself with time to kill at the airport. You can also bring a companion along for free (actually, just the cost of the ticket's taxes) if you have the Southwest Companion Pass.

The port of Miami is a 10-minute drive away and the hotel offers a shuttle there for a fee. The award-winning Comfort Suites Miami Airport North is 5 minutes from the airport and offers a free shuttle service to both the airport and the cruise port. The room price includes breakfast and a complimentary shuttle service to the airport, but not the cruise port. You can save by selecting a hotel close to the port with a shuttle and that lets you leave your car.

Carnival WiFi Packages: Ultimate Guide for Seamless Sea Surfing

The popular social package also allows access to popular airline sites, enabling you to check in for your flight towards the end of your cruise. Includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Linkedin, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, SnapChat and the most popular airline sites. One thing to note is that many ports of calls offer wi-fi service in some shape or form. There may be restaurants that offer wi-fi to customers or ports of call that offer access for a cheaper fee than what’s on the ship. You can also access the Internet with a day-pass so you don’t have to pay for access the entire week.

How Many Devices Can Connect to a Single Internet Package on a Carnival Cruise Ship?

Additionally, connecting to the Wi-Fi in less crowded areas of the ship can help improve speed. Finally, consider pre-purchasing the Wi-Fi package to access discounts and ensure a smoother internet experience during the cruise. If you’re starting a trip with Carnival Cruise and wondering about their Wi-Fi services, this is the right place for you. I opted for the Premium plan during my cruise, and its speed was truly impressive. I experienced no connection problems while video and music streaming or conducting video calls. Onboard Carnival cruise ships you can use the WiFi for free, but only to access the Hub app.

Internet Plans

The internet plan was well worth the price because we could all use and share internet access. Carnival’s WiFi is worth it if you need to stay connected on your cruise vacation. It’s important to remember that confirming this switch will automatically disconnect the previous device from the internet. This feature can be particularly useful for parents wanting to limit their children’s screen time, helping everyone enjoy the vacation experience more fully. You’ll receive a prompt asking if you want to switch devices.

Disney Cruise Line

Selecting the ideal internet plan for your cruise may appear challenging, but the right information can make this easier. Do you need a constant connection, or is occasional access okay? Technically, you could buy an internet package for every device, but it can get very expensive quickly. The Social WiFi plan is designed for those mainly using social media apps and websites.

In addition to emergency medical transportation, Disney Cruise insurance also offers repatriation coverage. This means that if you were to pass away while on the cruise, your remains would be transported back to your home country or the country of residence. This coverage takes care of the logistics and expenses involved in repatriating your body, providing peace of mind to you and your loved ones. This coverage provides peace of mind, knowing that you will be taken care of if any health issues arise during your cruise. In addition to doctor visits, the insurance also includes coverage for medication expenses. So, not only will you have access to medical professionals, but you can also get the necessary medications without worrying about the cost.

Solutions have included adding more satellites and linking their systems to land-based towers that connect with ships as they near shore. For most of the many years I've been writing about cruising, the typical internet connection at sea hasn't just been slow. You'd click on a website only to experience many seconds of frustration.

There are no time restrictions for using Wi-Fi on Carnival cruises. The pricing for Wi-Fi packages varies based on when purchased and length of access. More details about the pricing can be found on Carnival’s website.

I know many people are concerned about VPN usage, especially on using public Wi-Fi. So that’s something really important to know on cruise ships. But Carnival Cruise line does say that they are safe and secure.

The more modern ships have a better internal network infrastructure on board. This network can cope with the demands of lots of passengers trying to access the Internet all at once. AT&T for example offers the AT&T Cruise Package which has a set fee of $100 for a month. The data is capped at 1GB which most users would hit fairly quickly, so I personally wouldn’t recommend this. Once you leave your local departure port, you will soon be out of reach of local mobile cell towers. So unless you have roaming switched off in your phone’s settings, you will be automatically connected to the Ship’s own mobile network.

Unless your mobile phone plan includes some form of International plan or “cruise cover”, the costs for these calls will be expensive. So always check what the charges might be with your provider. However, they do provide the above-discussed subscription-based Wifi plans to ensure you stay connected during your voyage. However, if you’re a digital nomad or simply need a fast and seamless internet connection, the Premium Wifi Plan is designed for you.

In other words, unless you are sailing on Norwegian, then you should just assume you can’t access with a virtual private network. Depending on your phone, it may be easiest to use a messaging app like WhatsApp. We’ve noticed that the iMessage service on iPhones seems to work well to send messages to other iPhones, but doesn’t easily text Android users over the wi-fi. For lower-tier plans that are less expensive, expect the speed to be slower. One thing to know is that Celebrity trips often have a “Always Included” deal. With this offer, drinks and wi-fi service are already included in your fare.

As you might expect, there is some blocking and filtering of websites while on the ship’s wi-fi. Of course, if you buy a lower-tier plan that doesn’t allow full access to the internet (such as Carnival’s Social plan) then you won’t be able to access the full internet. Even if you do have full online access, you can still expect some content filtering. That said, we wouldn’t push it by trying to download the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

On your device, open your WiFi settings and you’ll likely see a network named either “Carnival WiFi” or it may be named after your ship, e.g. “Carnival Vista WiFi”. Click on that network, and your device should direct you to a webpage to fill in your details and get connected. To access Carnival’s WiFi service on board, simply turn on WiFi on your device and access the WiFi settings. Your screen will then give you instructions on how to purchase an internet package. If you’ve left it too late to pre-purchase your internet package, then you can buy an internet plan on the ship. Depending on where you cruise to and your cell phone data plan, you may be able to use 5G or 4G in many ports of call for free.

You can upgrade or change your Carnival WiFi package during the cruise. Visit the Guest Services desk onboard the ship, and they’ll assist you in switching to a different WiFi package if needed. However, Norwegian Cruise Line allows VPN usage on their WiFi.

Today, most people must have wi-fi — even if they are on a cruise in the middle of the ocean. In fact, we always sign up for service every time that we sail. Purchasing Carnival’s internet access for the whole family can become costly. However, a cost-effective workaround allows multiple devices to share a single internet plan. The Carnival Hub App offers various features to enhance your cruise experience.
